OK, in true AJ style it has been 1 month and 2 days since my last blog. I am a very talented procrastinator and rarely finish what I start. Terrible traits which I am trying to improve on, but anyway…..
Little did I know that while writing my last blog, a little baby was being conceived. I’m currently 6 weeks and 5 days pregnant!
For about a week before I did my pregnancy test I knew that I was either pregnant or having really bad PMS symptoms (which I never usually have). My boobs were soo sore and I was absolutely exhausted ALL the time. I asked DH if I should do a test and he said I should wait. I’d done a test the month before because my period was a week late and it was negative. He told me later he didn’t want to be disappointed like last time. Me being the impatient woman I am couldn’t wait. No one knows the next part of my story…. I went out to get some groceries and got a 3 pack of pregnancy tests. I went in to the bathroom and peed on the stick. I didn’t read the instructions so didn’t use it properly. It wasn’t on a flat surface and I didn’t put the lid back on. It took (what felt like) a really long time to do anything so I figured I had stuffed it up and threw it in the bin. Later on, curiosity got the better of my and I snuck a peek at it in the bin. It was positive. I knew I couldn’t really rely on this test though so I kept quiet and went to bed.
The next morning I went to work and took one of the spare tests with me. I did the test in my office bathroom first things and sat for a few minutes nervously waiting for the result. I eventually came and it was very clear pink line. There was no doubt about it, it was positive.
I went and sat at my desk. I sit next to a girl named Ash who I’m quite close with. I wasn’t sure whether I should tell her or not. I looked and my computer and tried to read emails and do my work but I couldn’t concentrate AT ALL! I didn’t last long. I turned to Ash and said “I have to tell you something”. She looked concerned. I told her what had just happened and the concern quickly turned to excitement. She told me to make an appointment with my doctor and leave work early that day. I managed to get through most of the day and at around 3pm she told our boss I wasn’t feeling well and that I was going home. I still hadn’t told DH. This is something I wanted to do in person.
I went to the doctor thinking that nothing is confirmed until I get the blood test. He told me that the at home tests are very accurate and I was definitely pregnant and congratulated me. I ended up getting my blood test and the results later in the week and I was definitely pregnant and everything was normal.
I arrived home and DH was very surprised to see me. He asked me why I was home so early. I told him I went to the doctor. “Why?” he asked. “Well… you know how you told me not to do a pregnancy test?” “Are you pregnant?” “Yes”. He told me suspected because I had been saying over and over again how much my boobs hurt! There was no dramatic, over-the-top reaction but I didn’t expect one. I didn’t have one either. It’s very early days so we know that anything can still happen, but we’re both very happy and just taking it day by day. We’ve told our bosses and one friend and that’s it! It’s been less than 2 weeks since I found out but it feels like forever when you can’t tell anyone about it!!
